Bio

Sister Mary, an excellent all around athlete and scholar, attended Salem State College before the women’s intercollegiate sports program had been developed beyond occasional “field” day meetings between schools. During her years at the College, the Women’s Athletic Association was a dynamic force on campus with all the women students participating in athletic competition. Ryan won virtually every award the W.A.A offered during her four years at Salem and was valedictorian of her class.

Sister Mary has served on the faculty of Aquinas Junior College since 1962. She was Chairperson of the Humanities and Sciences Department from 1974 to 1985. Following graduation from Salem, she taught and coached basketball and softball in New Hampshire before becoming a member of the Congregation of the sisters of St. Joseph of Boston in 1953. She lives in the Josea Community in Newtonville, Massachusetts.
