Bio

While at the State Teachers College at Salem, as it was known then, Gould competed with excellence in every sports program available to her. She earned the highest awards offered by the Women’s Athletic Association winning her “gold pin” in two years rather than four. Selected the outstanding athlete of her graduation class, Gould also received her rating as a national basketball official while at Salem.

After her graduation fifty years ago, Gould taught for thirty six years and continued her basketball refereeing career for the same period, officiating both high school and college women’s games. She also refereed high school field hockey and volleyball. An active tennis player, she has won several trophies in women’s and mixed doubles. Gould is very active in numerous civic organizations in Newburyport including service as Director of the Historic Society of Old Newbury and the Newbury YWCA. She is currently the President of the Essex County Chapter of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. Gould and her husband, Bartlett have two sons, Thomas and Robert, and are the proud grandparents of one granddaughter.
