Bio

Lavacchia successfully coached two sports, baseball and basketball, each for ten years accumulating over one hundred wins in each. As baseball coach from 1969 to 1979 he accumulated a record of 108 wins and 37 losses. His teams competed in post season tournament play five times, winning conference titles four times. Before becoming basketball coach he served as assistant from 1969 to 1972. While the team was under his direction from 1972 to 1982 their overall record was 170 wins and 58 losses and they were invited to five post season tournaments. His teams won four conference titles. Lavacchia was named N.A.I.A. District Basketball Coach of the Year in 1974 and U.P.I. New England Basketball Coach of the Year in 1982. He has been a member of the faculty of the Sports, Fitness and Leisure Studies Department at the College since 1962.

 

Active in numerous coaching and officiating professional organizations, Lavacchia is a past president of the Association of New England Football Officials. Lavacchia graduated from Plymouth State College and received his Masters degree from the University of Connecticut. Originally from Derry, New Hampshire, Lavacchia and his wife Anee (Jones) reside in Woburn. They have two children, Joanne and James.
