Bio

Leonard is recognized as one of the best pitchers in the distinguished history of the Salem State College baseball program. He competed for four years in that sport and captained the team in his senior year. In addition, Leonard played soccer for four years and co-captained that team in his senior year. He also served as President of the Men’s Athletic Association.

 

After completing his degree at Salem, Leonard has continued his interest in sports. He played and coached a semi-pro baseball team in 1960 and 1961- the 1961 team won the state championship. Leonard coached an American Legion team from 1961 to 1982 winning six league titles, two Eastern Massachusetts crowns and one state championship. A senior administrator in the Lynn School system, Leonard received his Masters degree from Salem and completed his doctorate at the University of Massachusetts. In addition to completing post doctoral studies he served as an adjunct Professor in the graduate school at Salem State from 1978 to 1982. Leonard and his wife Anne Marie live in Lynn. They have two sons James and Tim, who is a student at Salem State College, and one grandson.
