Bio

A native of Lynn, Brenner played varsity basketball for four seasons, from 1936 to 1940, at Salem Teacher’s College, as the College was then known. He was team captain for two years. He also played baseball and was selected captain for that team for the 1940 season. As a basketball player, Brenner was named to the All Conference Team of the New England Teacher’s College conference for three consecutive years. Leading the team in scoring each year, Brenner regularly accounted for more than half of his team’s total scoring. He has the great distinction of being the only Salemplayer to have been on teams the defeated both St. Anslem’s and Boston University.

Following graduation, Brenner continued to play with many teams, including the Boston Whirlwinds, which were associated with the Boston Celtics. He taught and coached basketball in Billerica before coming to Lynn Classical where his teams won numerous titles during his tenure. He was director of the business Education Department at Classical before assuming his current responsibilities as the presiding Judge and Director of Racing at Wonderland in Revere.

Brenner presently makes his home in Lynn with his wife, Elaine. Three sons, Stephen, Gary ’74 and Neal, complete the family.
